CHRISTIE'S INTERNATIONAL REAL ESTATE is New Name for World’s Leading Network of Luxury Property Specialists

	Christie’s,
the world’s leading art business, has today announced a corporate name
change for its exclusive property brand Christie’s International Real
Estate, formerly Christie’s Great Estates. The prime and super-prime
sectors of the property market—where Christie’s International Real
Estate operates exclusively—have a global clientele. The name change
will instill in these consumers a more immediate grasp of the company’s
mandate and clarify that Christie’s and its real estate arm are one and
the same.
Christie’s International Real Estate
is the only real estate network wholly owned by a fine art auction
house. The network is uniquely positioned to follow the footprint of its
parent company, Christie’s, into the growing markets of the Middle
East, Russia, and China, as well as established economies across the
world, most notably North and South America and Europe. The new name
further underscores that the values that distinguish
Christie’s—commitment, expertise, integrity, discretion, and five-star
customer service—are likewise embedded in the company’s luxury
residential property specialists.
The Christie’s International Real
Estate rebrand will be spearheaded by Lisa King, Chief Operating Officer
of Christie’s and Chairman of Christie’s International Real Estate, and
Neil Palmer, Chief Executive Officer and architect of the real estate
business’s global strategy. Mr. Palmer brings to his position a broad
range of real estate experience that spans the residential and
commercial sectors in Asia, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom. Ms.
King comes from a three-generation family business in property
development and, prior to joining Christie’s, practiced real estate law.
Christie’s International Real Estate
instructions represent some of the most prestigious trophy properties in
the world, which include estates, resort properties, second and third
homes, and super-prime new-build developments, all priced above US$1
million. Client instructions have included Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
Trump Tower Residence in New York City; Lyons Demesne, the historic
Irish landmark fully restored by Dr. Tony Ryan; Ingmar Bergman’s island
retreat in Sweden; and the Astor Beechwood Mansion in Newport, Rhode
Island. Among the most valuable properties currently in the Christie’s
International Real Estate portfolio are Palais Montmorency on Avenue Foch in Paris, France, valued in excess of US$100 million, and Cornwall Terrace,
the historic Grade I–listed Regency terrace in The Regent’s Park,
London, which was recently voted the most significant luxury property
development in the United Kingdom.
Lisa King comments: ‘‘This change of
name confirms Christie's continued commitment to extend its real estate
reach by creating a closer alignment between our art and real estate
businesses. The new name best positions our valued and highly qualified
network of Affiliates to capitalise on our global market presence and
the opportunities presented by our high- quality client base.”
Neil Palmer comments: ‘‘With our
Affiliate network continuing to rapidly expand globally, this name
change reinforces what we do and the high standard of service that we
deliver to participants in the luxury residential property market,
whether they are buyers or sellers of the most luxurious, the most
significant, or the most glamorous homes around the world.”View the press release in Arabic, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese. Contacts:AGENZIA ROMOLINI IMMOBILIARE s.r.l. Marta Romolini Tel: +39 0575 788948 Email: info@romolini.comFor further Christie’s real estate information contact: Christie’s International Real EstateLisa Bessone Tel: +1 505 603 8039 Email: lbessone@christies.comMonique Sofo Tel: +1 505 629 9569 Email: msofo@christies.com For further Christie’s art market information contact: Christie’s Alexandra Buxton Tel: +44 20 7839 9060 Email: abuxton@christies.com

CHRISTIE’S GREAT ESTATES CONFERENCE IN TORONTO, ONTARIO, ENERGIZES AFFILIATE NETWORK WITH INTRODUCTION OF GLOBAL EXPANSION STRATEGY BY CEO NEIL PALMER

Elite CORPS OF 150 COMPANY OWNERS AND PRINCIPALS FROM 28 COUNTRIES IN ATTENDANCE WITH AFFILIATE HOST HARVEY KALLES REAL ESTATE PREVIEW NEW COMPANY WEB SITE AND FORGE CLOSER TIES TO CHRISTIE’S ART AUCTION HOUSE ISADORE SHARP, FOUNDER OF THE ICONIC FOUR SEASONS HOTELS, DELIVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS ON THE VALUE OF BRANDING

Toronto, Ontario, Canada — Branding was the conference theme that drew business principals and owners from the Christie’s Great Estates network to Toronto this week. Affiliates previewed the network’s global expansion strategy, viewed the company’s new Web site to be rolled out publically by year’s end, and learned how to better utilize the resources of the parent company, Christie’s, to build business through art and real estate introductions.
"The network is poised to catapult to the next level,” says Neil Palmer, Chief Executive Officer. "While fully supporting the current affiliate business model and emboldened by unparalleled support from our parent company, Christie’s International, Christie’s Great Estates will be expanding into new markets, offering the high-value programs and services that distinguish us from our competitors.”

Representing 28 countries—including New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Uruguay, and the Caribbean—the program’s highlights included a keynote from Isadore Sharp, Founder and Chairman, Four Seasons. Addressing the audience at his flagship hotel in Toronto, Sharp told his story of how he nurtured his modest local brand into an esteemed international imprimatur. (continued)

"A brand carries with it a promise that you will deliver on very high expectations and adhere to a strong set of core values that you never compromise,” Sharp told the audience. "Values such as ethics and excellence and expertise that demonstrate the depth of your culture. This is how you benefit with your association with the prestigious Christie’s brand.” Sharp’s comments artfully set the course for the following day’s business meetings, further highlighted by a presentation from Christie’s department of Estates, Appraisals, and Valuation. Head of European Estates based in London, Nick Orchard, and Tash Perrin, Senior Vice President from New York, both of Christie’s, explained the scope of opportunities for art and real estate to work in concert to best serve "synergistic client overlay”—an expression coined by Christie’s Great Estates Chairman, Nick Deeming, in his opening night welcoming remarks. The agenda also featured the first ever Affiliate-of-the-Year Awards ceremony. The overall winner was Brown Harris Stevens in New York City with President Hall Willkie accepting the gavel-inspired trophy. The top honor was determined from the pool of winners from the three contest categories—large, medium, and small markets. Brown Harris Steven took top honors in the large category, while Ken Jacobs of Australia won in the medium-market judging, and Lila Delman Real Estate of Newport, Rhode Island, was the small-market winner.

2010 TUSCAN SUN FESTIVAL CORTONA TUSCANY ITALY

Tuscan Sun Festival 2010 - Cortona Tuscany

The Tuscan Sun Festival is an annual music and art festival that takes place within the intimate setting of the medieval town of Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. The August festival offers an exciting program that includes not only world class concerts, but a daily program of events that explore fine art, film, culinary and wine, fitness and wellness, and local culture and history. Each evening, concerts featuring some of the world's most distinguished artists are performed in the intimate setting of the Romantic-period theatre, Teatro Signorelli. The steps of Teatro Signorelli spill into the atmospheric open-air Piazza Signorelli, which transforms for two nights into the venue for musical galas under the stars.
For 2010, we’re delighted to present the husband and wife team Sting and Trudie Styler together on stage in Twin Spirits: an unique and intimate live theatrical performance by a chamber ensemble of actors, singers and musicians, portraying the deep and ultimately tragic love between the composer Robert Schumann and his pianist wife Clara Wieck. Following their spectacular appearance at the 2009 festival, principal dancers of the American Ballet Theater, Maxim Beloserkovsky and Irina Dvorovenko (Max and Irina) return to the Festival to present a Ballet Gala: Stars of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky. With a musical programme boasting some of the world’s most distinguished artists, the Festival opens with an Opera Gala, featuring the winner of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, Russian soprano Ekaterina Scherbachenko, together with tenor Marcello Giordani, supported by the Orchestra della Toscana.
GRAMMY award-winning diva soprano, Reneé Fleming, appears in Piazza Signorelli for an evening of beautiful arias, together with Alberto Veronesi and the Orchestra del Festival Puccini with the participation of young composer and conductor Anthony Arcaini. Violin superstar Joshua Bell returns to the Festival with his long-time collaborator, Gramophone award-winning cellist Steven Isserlis, and Italian actor/director Gabriele Lavia delivers an evening of monologues called "Il Sogno di un uomo ridicolo" (The Dream of a Ridiculous Man), by Fyodor Dostoevsky, supported by harpist Cecilia Chailly. Every year, the Tuscan Sun Festival is host to a visual artist. This year we are excited to present an exhibition by the New York urban artist DAZE. In addition to his exhibition, DAZE will create art works in a public space during the festival.
<br<DAZE will also give an interview as part of our ‘Conversation with an Artist’ series, led by prominent writer/speaker, and Festival regular, Matthew Gurewitsch. The programme is balanced with daytime events and this year’s line-up is more adventurous than ever. Trudie Styler and James D'Silva will lead a dynamic, empowering yoga and pilates workout.
During a second Festival Event on biodynamic Wine, Ms. Styler will be on a panel together with the distinguished wine critic James Suckling as they will describe the process involved in creating biodynamic wine. James Suckling will also lead a Wine & Cuisine event new to the 2010 Festival, "Masters of Wine”. This year’s event will be an exclusive tasting of Brunello Riserva 2004, followed by a Michelin-starred dinner at Il Falconiere, featuring its chef, Silvia Baracchi. Many more festival events take place daily encompassing film, wellness, cuisine, art workshops and dance. The Story of the Sun Festivals In the 1990’s, Barrett Wissman and cellist Nina Kotova had often discussed organizing an event somewhere in the world where friends could make music together in a warm welcoming atmosphere. As regular visitors and part-time residents in the Cortona area, Wissman and Kotova discussed their desire to bring together musicians, as well as artists from many disciplines, with their neighbor, Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun. Mayes suggested that Cortona might be the very location for such a gathering. When in Cortona, Wissman and Kotova had often passed by the charming exterior of the Teatro Signorelli, the principle music venue in the very heart of the town. On one occasion when the Teatro was empty, they managed to visit the interior - and then they knew. Full of the splendor of an earlier age, Teatro Signorelli was, at that time, used throughout the year mostly for the screening of films, as well as hosting local theatrical events. However, live musical performances were rarely a regular part of the theatre’s schedule. Armed with the hope of breathing musical life back into a beautiful Tuscan venue, combined with the first handful of enthusiastic international artists who routinely perform at the highest level, in 2003, the Tuscan Sun Festival was born. Since that time, the Festival has matured into an annual event that continues to be artist-led while simultaneously embracing the proud spirit of the local community. Regularly presenting prominary musicians, the Tuscan Sun Festival became the first event of its kind to provide such a platform and combine it with a pure celebration of life so abundant in Tuscany. Now produced by the renowned arts management company IMG Artists, of which Barrett Wissman became Chairman in 2003, the festival incorporates an array of ‘Festival Events’ which include fine art exhibitions, culinary events, wine tastings, lectures and other literary events, as well as the outstanding musical concerts. A number of the Festival Events showcase the talent of the local Cortona community, underlying the desire to keep the Tuscan Sun Festival part of Cortona’s family. In 2006, Barrett Wissman was granted an Honorary Citizen of Cortona City by the Mayor of Cortona, Dott. Andrea Vignini. The notion that beautiful music could be combined with the visual and culinary arts, wine-making and literature caught on. Thus, tucked away in the heart of the Napa Valley in California, among the lush vineyards, gently rolling hills and bathed in eternal California sunshine, Festival del Sole Napa Valley became the second jewel added to Sun Festival crown. Founded in the summer of 2006 as a sister festival to the Tuscan Sun Festival, Festival del Sole Napa Valley quickly established its own identity with an incomparable parade of performances followed by gala receptions and dinners, every evening. The concert schedule rivals anything a major metropolis offers during an entire year, and yet Festival del Sole presents far more than only classical music. Visitors to the festival can find anything from a young artist series, introducing the best talent California has to offer, to multimedia presentations, outdoor mega-concerts for thousands of people, as well as jazz and experimental music. The second season included the addition of the spectacular Castello di Amorosa as a concert venue, a full-scale reproduction medieval castle that defies reality and rivals the best palaces of Italy. A mecca for gourmets and famous chefs, Napa has generously shared its most famous culinary stars with the Festival. Festival del Sole Napa Valley has become the most anticipated festival in California and is already instantly recognized as one of America’s premiere artistic events after only three seasons. Festival del Sole Napa Valley is presented under the auspices of the Del Sole Foundation for the Arts and Humanities, a registered U.S. non-profit charitable institution. With the first two musical and cultural festivals well established, in 2007, Singapore became the exclusive Asian home of The Sun Festival. . From 1-11 October, the Singapore Sun Festival features over 250 international and regional artists in over 90 events in 11 days, ranging from performances by some of the best artists from around the world, exclusive wine sessions, culinary classes, art exhibitions, literature talks, film screenings and wellness sessions with yoga and tai chi experts. The Singapore Sun Festival 2009 builds upon the reputation established for the Festival in its inaugural year and has firmly establish the Festival as Singapore’s leading annual arts and life-style festival. And so, from the initial aspiration of gathering a group of friends to create art, the collective expertise garnered from the three established Sun Festivals has meant that IMG Artists has gone on to provide advisory work for arts festivals around the world including Festival of the Arts, Boca Raton, Florida and Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival. Combining experience in the international performing arts scene with its network of local resources, IMG Artists now leads the industry in the creation, production and implementation of music and cultural festivals. The founders of the Festival Barrett Wissman Impresario Barrett Wissman is the Chairman of IMG Artists, the global leader in the arts management business with offices in New York, London, Lucca, Paris, Hanover and Singapore. Wissman is the co-founder of the Tuscan Sun Festival, together with cellist Nina Kotova and noted writer Frances Mayes, as well as the sister festivals, Festival del sole Napa Valley and the Singapore Sun Festival. Having received a graduate degree in music, studying piano, at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, and serving on the board of the Cremona Society, which collects and lends rare instruments to deserving soloists, Wissman has always loved Italy. Nina Kotova Russian cellist Nina Kotova co-founded the Tuscan Sun Festival in 2003 and continues to serve as Artistic Director of this festival, as well as the Festival del Sole Napa Valley and the Singapore Sun Festival. In addition to her work as Artistic Director for the Sun Festivals as well as her international performing and recording schedule, Kotova has been appointed to the music faculty at the University of Texas at Austin as a Visiting Artist in cello and composition. Frances Mayes American poet and essayist Frances Mayes has written several best-selling books about Tuscany, including Bella Tuscany, In Tuscany, Bringing Tuscany Home and Under the Tuscan Sun, the latter of which was made into a Touchstone film starring Diane Lane. Mayes was instrumental is founding the Tuscan Sun Festival, launched in 2003 and often participates in the festival's literary events.

CHRISTIE'S GREAT ESTATES ANNOUNCES THE SALE OF INGMAR BERGMAN'S ESTATE IN FARO, SWEDEN

Fårö, Sweden— Legendary director Ingmar Bergman’s family compound in Fårö, Sweden, has been sold. The estate comprises five properties over a total area of 341 460 square meters. Lars Fågelklou of Residence Fastighetsmäkleri represented the property, with premier international marketing services provided by Christie’s Great Estates, the real estate arm of Christie’s art auction house. Sale price and details of the negotiation were not disclosed.
Bergman first visited Fårö, the stunning Balitic Island off the coast of Gotland, Sweden, in 1960 while searching for a location to shoot “Through a Glass Darkly.” He was so smitten that he moved to the island and lived there for more than 40 years. He wrote most of his screenplays at his home and some of his most revered films, including “Persona,” “The Shame,” “The Passion of Anna,” and “Scenes From A Marriage,” were filmed on location close by.
The estate’s four dwellings are set amid a rustic backdrop of dunes, boulders, and tumbling waters. Hammars is the main house, secluded along a road that winds through pine forests and quiet meadows. Completed in 1967, it remains an integral part of the island, along with the pebbled shores and luminous sky. Framing gorgeous sea vistas, the residence was designed by architect Kjell Abramson in close collaboration with Bergman himself.
The writing lodge is an idyllic two-room timber structure with a magnificent ocean view; it can be seen in the final sequence of the iconic television drama “Scenes from a Marriage.” The serene terrain here is defined by fossils, pine trees, and an undisturbed horizon with ever-changing light. Situated on an open meadow, Ängen is a comfortable winter retreat house, built in a classic Gotland style by expert craftsmen and offering three bedrooms, a living room with an impressive fireplace, and an inner courtyard that glows with lilacs in summer. Finally, just a short walk from the water is Dämba, a beautifully restored 1854 farmhouse. In an old whitewashed barn situated nearby is Bergman’s private cinema, where he watched films every day.Bergman, who passed away in the summer of 2006, is widely recognized as one of the most brilliant and influential filmmakers of modern cinema. In a career that spanned over sixty years, Bergman wrote, directed and produced fifty films, including “The Seventh Seal,” “Wild Strawberries,” “Cries and Whispers,” and “Fanny and Alexander.” Despite his global acclaim, Bergman lived peacefully on this remote island, where the locals fiercely protected the privacy of their most celebrated citizen. Often referred to as the city of roses and ruins, Visby is a nearby scenic mecca for dining, romance, and historic strolls. This compelling locality is the perfect complement to Bergman’s legacy in Fårö.
